Why Does Daydreaming Get Such a Bad Rap?

Call someone a daydreamer and you may as well just call them a flake, a space cadet, or a slacker.

Why are we so down on daydreaming?

Many years ago I had a falling-out with a girlfriend that proved so painful, I can hardly talk about it today. My friend (let's call her Mary) was a colorful television personality and had the world at her feet. She was engaged to a handsome European, and her face was plastered across the newspapers. I was working for 60 Minutes at the time, and we often met for lunch. Then one day her show was canceled and she asked me - casually, as though it didn't really matter...

"Daydreaming is looked upon negatively because it represents 'non-doing' in a society that emphasizes productivity," says John McGrail, a clinical hypnotherapist in Los Angeles. "We are under constant pressure to do, achieve, produce, succeed."

But daydreaming can be beneficial in many ways and, ironically, can actually boost productivity. Plus, it's something almost everyone does naturally. Psychologists estimate that we daydream for one-third to one-half of our waking hours, although a single daydream lasts only a few minutes...

Happy Dia De Los Muertos!

I had the most interesting conversation with a lady in the Mission today. I didn't know this, but there are seven items that need to be present on an altar for the ancestors on the Day of the Dead.

1. Water

2. Candle

3. Sugar

4. Something to eat

5. Salt

6. Incense

7. Flowers (Marigolds)

Isn't that beautiful??? It's all for the dead to feel welcomed and Honored. The marigolds are welcoming and draw them to your space, and also represent the briefness of life. They can enjoy the essence of any food you leave for them and use the salt to spice it up.

It's to honor them, to let them know we are thinking of them, and to thank them for their presence in our lives.

The altars in Mexico, and here in San Francisco, can be HUGE. They can include toys, wine, specific foods and music instruments that the Beloved enjoyed the most.

What I like about it, is that it celebrates death as a joyous part of life. These are displays of love that let the deceased know they will never be forgotten.

The Autumnal Equinox is much more than the first day of Fall. It marks an astronomical transition point between Summer and Winter - for now we have equal day and equal night.

Today is referred to as the festival of Mabon. This is the second harvest festival of the year, the first being Lammas (August 1st) and the third being Halloween (October 31st). The seeds we have planted in the Spring are now coming to fruition.

What have you been working on this year? What is coming to fruition in your life right now? This is a really beautiful time of year - one of my favorites. It's harvest season, where we see the result of our labors. We reap what we have sown. It's the time to take stock of where you are in your life right now - what you've brought forth and what you still want to manifest.

Today we feel the turn of the wheel of the year. Standing in the middle of equal daylight to equal nighttime, we also look at BALANCE. Are we out of balance in our lives? Are we taking care of ourselves? Are we working hard but making time for our dreams and having fun too?

Mabon also relates to mid life; to our 40's and 50's when we have accomplished some things, but also might harbor regrets. We made it to September! The crazy month of August is at an end. Lots of turmoil in planetary configurations the last few weeks... and we've seen it manifest here on Earth. The planets made several tension-producing Grand Crosses in the sky... plus the Mercury Retrograde which lasted most of the month.

Meanwhile transformative events sprang up from every corner of the globe. The violence in Syria, riots and fires in London, the dip of the US credit rating and the resulting upheaval in global stock markets. The final Grand Cross occured the last week of August and spawned the fall of Gaddafi's regime, a rare east coast earthquake and a hurricane!!

You'll be happy to know the month of September will be much quieter.

The New Moon in Virgo occurred last Sunday night at 8:04pm Pacific time. Venus leads the Sun, Mercury and Mars through their yearly journey through Virgo, enhanced by Mercury's Direct motion.

Virgo is the only earth sign in the zodiac that's ruled by Air. This is significant because AIR is about ideas while the EARTH element is Manifestation. Virgo helps us take practical steps towards achieving our dreams.

So here we are.

At 11:30 am PST, Saturday July 30th, the Moon and Sun converged into a New Moon in the fire sign of Leo ~ giving us a new cycle of growth over the next 30 days. Leo is a sign concerned with POWER. It's a fixed sign, which means it can stubbornly refuse to budge from it's position. Also, Leo seeks the limelight - it's the sign most associated with theater. I saw it playing out in Washington all last week.

It's interesting that this debt ceiling debate is happening now. Leo is the sign of the wise and gentle ruler who leads with his or her heart. The leader who puts the concerns of the people above all else. But instead our country is being held hostage by power plays and greed.

I was happy to hear about the religious leaders that gathered on Capitol Hill to pray on Friday! They were arrested of course. They gathered to protest cuts to programs that would help the poor:

From the NY Times: "Religious and civic leaders from around the country were arrested in the U.S. Capitol today in an act of civil disobedience to protest drastic cuts contained in a Republican bill now before the House. The leaders first met with Congresswoman Chellie Pingree before Pingree escorted them to the Capitol Rotunda, where they were arrested while praying.
After the arrest, Pingree spoke on the House floor, saying that the religious and civic leaders who had been arrested were speaking for working class families.
"They were praying for the millions of Americans who don't have high priced lobbyists to protect them," Pingree said. "They were praying for the families who find it harder and harder to afford basics like groceries and heat and gas for their cars--not the millionaires and big oil companies whose tax breaks are protected in this bill."

Anyhow, enough politics and onto the New Moon! The next two weeks will be a great time to let your light shine and be creative. Some of your plans might be delayed though due to the Mercury Retrograde beginning Tuesday. The Mercury Retrograde lasts from August 2nd through August 26th.

June is the month of eclipses. There are three of them which is unusual, and it's a major turning point for all of us! June 1st was a Solar eclipse, and now we have a Full Moon Eclipse in Sagittarius.
So what does it mean you ask??

Well, a Full Moon is a culmination. It's the full blossoming of events that have arisen over the past two weeks. But what if there is an eclipse at one of these points in time? Or three in a row for pete's sake????

When the World falls under the influence of an eclipse, things are out of the ordinary. It's an uncommon time, and we have rare and insightful experiences. It's like walking around your darkened bedroom with a black light - things show up differently, and we see things in a way we don't normally see them. Some things are brighter and easier to see and some things fall into shadow.

Quite simply, I feel it is a time when we touch the foundations of why we are here on this planet. Each of us gains some new insight or information into the life we are currently leading. This information can come through anything - our family, friends, a situation at work, or a bolt of lightning straight from the heavens into our consciousness. During the Full Moon in Scorpio, it's a time to connect with others on a deep level, especially sexually. Any acts of healing and ritual are highlighted, as well as occult pursuits. "Journey Along the Edge of the Earth" by Vladimir Kush is a great symbolic representation of the full Moon in Scorpio.

Kush says of his painting: "This picture is divided quite naturally into three parts representing three elements: Heaven, Sea, and Subterranean World. Here the whole front of the picture is taken up by the image of the subterranean world, where a giant egg-shaped rock fragment hangs between sharp jags of the cliffs. In the background of the picture we see a cloud in the shape of a bird flying away. This creates connection between the front and the background giving rise to associations with Polynesian myths of the Creation of the Earth from the Egg laid into the Ocean by the giant bird. Sails in the sea and hovering birds are symbols of wind, breath, and human soul. Being arranged in the nearly vertical direction, they produce the feeling of the cosmic infinity of the world around."

Scorpio is a water sign which rules mystery, the occult, research, sex, death, and psychology. The lowest form of Scorpio is the Gray Lizard which lives in the ocean depths and is focused on fulfilling it's own needs. The second form is the Scorpion which can be distrustful and vengeful towards others. The third manifestation is the Bald Eagle which soars high above the Earth, sees the larger view of things, heals others with it's worldly perspective and becomes one with God.

This painting to me symbolizes the Eagle. It's the mystery of personal evolution (rising to the heights), psychology (the subterranean world with the promise of rebirth with the Egg) and the edge of the World (the ocean and the ship, where the world ends and the spirit world begins).

Beltane ~ May 1st, 2011 ~ Flowers & Firepower

What a weekend. We started off with the Royal Wedding, today is BELTANE (one of the oldest, wildest, and most pagan of holidays), and then tonight we find out about the death of Osama Bin Laden. What a crazy turn of events.. and in just three days!

First, the wedding... my observation is that women seemed interested while the men wanted nothing to do with it. Not surprising:)

I see it as significant.

It's the high point of Spring ~ flowers are blooming, most of us sneezing, birds raising their young... May 1st is when Celtic tradition states that the fairies return from the underground.

Beltane is the uniting of the May Queen with her consort the Green Man (who is about to become the King of Summer on June 21st). It's a festival of love, dedication, and purification ~ often symbolized by jumping a fire. Friday, also, is ruled by Venus and is traditionally the day of love. Is it a coincidence that Prince William and his bride chose Friday for their wedding? hhmmm I wonder...

As for the astrology of the event, William was born on June 21st which is the Summer Solstice. It's the time of greatest light of the year, days are longest and crops are reaching their peak. I find these facts to be more than coincidence. They point to a reconnection of the present with ancestral times. He's in line for the throne of England, and he truly is the pagan King of Summer. Also, Catherine is a Capricorn and William is a Cancerian which are polar opposites (sit directly opposite each other in the zodiac). They are a power couple, and they absolutely bring balance to each others' lives. According to Chinese Astrology, Catherine is a Metal Rooster and William a Water Dog ~ a fairly good match. I hope Catherine will not express the Rooster tendency of being critical and overly opinionated. Roosters DO love the spotlight, and the Dog (William) is loyal and will be protective of his family.

I do have a couple of concerns. For one thing, the Moon was Void-of-Course in Pisces all day Friday, which is not the best time to take vows. Energy is unstable during a void-of-course moon and anything can happen! When the moon shifts from Pisces to Aries, the atmosphere takes on a feeling of rebirth. I certainly felt that during the ceremony.

Also, if you check out the chart of the wedding below it shows some huge extremes. The majority of planets, including the Sun, are in the 10th House of Public Acclaim. This marriage will remain in the public eye, and the work they do together will be the important, uniting factor in their relationship. The 10th House and MC (Midheaven) are also in Aries which shows this couple will be pioneering, and will walk through life in their own individual way. They will set a great example for others. All of the major planets are in opposition with Saturn, the taskmaster. Saturn, the single planet opposing all of this, brings a sober and realistic view of the world and asks us to be disciplined and hard working. This marriage is heavily grounded in responsibility and organization, and might bring limits to the different aspects of their lives.

As we all prepare for the upcoming Halloween season, please take a few minutes to read some simple rules to help keep everyone safe. These rules were forwarded from a friend, so I’m not sure who deserves the credit for this….

1. Don’t assume the telephone calls are coming from another house.
2. When it appears that you have killed the monster, NEVER check to see if it’s really dead.
3. Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.
4. Don’t go into the basement to check the power when the lights go out!
5. If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they should not know, shoot them immediately. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. However, it will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared. This also applies to kids who speak with somebody else’s voice.
6. When you have the benefit of numbers, NEVER split up and go it alone.
7. As a general rule, don’t solve puzzles that open a portal to Hell.
8. Never stand in, on, or above a grave, tomb, or crypt. This would apply to any other house of the dead as well.
9. If you’re searching for something which caused a loud noise and find out that it’s just the cat, don’t stand there sighing with relief, GET OUT!
10. If appliances start operating by themselves, don’t check for short circuits; JUST GET OUT!
11. Do not take ANYTHING from the dead.
12. If you find a town which looks deserted, there’s probably a good reason for it. Don’t stop and look around.
13. Don’t fool with recombinant DNA technology unless you’re sure you
know what you’re doing.

19. If you find that your house is built upon a cemetery, now is the time to move in with the in-laws. This also applies to houses that had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion.

I've been thinking about the Air element a lot lately...

First there's the heat in San Francisco the past couple of days. It's because the winds have changed direction. They are blowing East to West for the first time in several weeks. It's significant when winds change direction. It means magic is in the air and transformation is imminent.

The Sun just followed Mercury (Lord of the Winds) into the sign of Virgo - the only earth sign in the zodiac that's ruled by Air. This is notable because AIR is about ideas while the EARTH element is Manifestation. They work well together. Virgo helps us take practical steps towards achieving our dreams.

Today (Tuesday) is also a Full Moon in Pisces - the sign of the dreamer, artist, musician, humanitarian and mystic. It's perhaps the most spiritual of the signs and brings us closer to the God of our understanding.

With Lammas behind us and Mabon ahead, we are in the harvest season. Mercury is our guide, asking us to slow down and pay attention to what we are harvesting.

Today is the first of three harvest festivals of the year. It's Lammas or "loaf" day, and it's the first wheat harvest. Whatever "seed" you planted last March is coming to fruition now.

Yay it's SUMMER and time for Leo the Lion!

Well... that's IF you're outside of San Francisco. Our summer doesn't come for a couple of months and it's been FREEZING here!

In the world of astrology this is already an eventful season. The Sun is in Leo and the Moon full in Aquarius yesterday. We had two eclipses last month alongside a Grand Cross; and there's the entrance of Uranus into Aries and Saturn into Libra! The planet Uranus (sudden events, originality and revolution) has been in Pisces for the last 7 years. Particularly this live display of witches... a little creepier than I envision myself to be, but profoundly creative and representational nonetheless...

These folks are channeling something from the past, that much is certain.

Funny old-fashioned description of a Witch (for the record, I don't have any warts or claws):

A witch is a person, often a woman, who practices witchcraft. A man that practices witchcraft is often called a warlock. Aries: The Ram

The Spring Equinox marks more than the revolutions of the Earth and the Sun, it's a time that we can use to set goals and map a course for the rest of the year.

It's a highly energetic and magical time of year! I've been watching the world bursting into bloom for the past week. The air is thick with pollen. I have crows battling for mates in my backyard during the day and raccoons doing god-knows-what in my backyard at night. There were some unearthly sounds back there at 4am last night:)

Equinox = equal day and equal night.

The light is growing and the days are getting longer, but the vernal equinox is about balance. This is the time of year when our ancestors would plant the crops that would grow and ripen in the summer sun. The harvest would come in the Fall. This cycle is an ancient one, and reflects how we first came to survive on this planet and live in harmony with the Earth.

And the cool thing is, you can grow MORE than vegetables!

If you want to increase something this year, plant the seed for it today, Saturday March 20th! For me, "planting the seed" usually means taking some type of seed - I use wheat seeds from my family's farm in Canada - and planting it in the ground near my house. As you plant the seed say to yourself "I plant this seed so that I may grow ____________ this year in my life. I pray for an abundant harvest this Fall".

You can say anything as long as it comes from your heart:)

And you can plant ANYTHING! You can plant more than one thing too, but simple is always better.
I planted self esteem two years in a row and it worked miraculously.

Patti Smith's advice to Artists, Musicians and Writers

I'm sitting at breakfast with my Mom and her sister in a hotel in downtown Seattle. It's a LOVELY breakfast and beautiful view of the rain and November foliage outside... all of a sudden I feel this presence behind me. I look to my right and.... and.... is that Lenny Kaye? Why yes as a matter of fact it is! He sits down at the table next to ours with another gentleman I don't recognize. I steal a few glances but I don't want to be invasive, so I keep chatting with the relatives.

But then a woman walks up to Lenny Kaye. She's about 5'7" with long darkish gray hair, dark masculine clothing and a presence that shakes the room. I know in a flash it's Patti Smith. I had seen her speak the night before, and she had chastised audience from coming up and bothering her at breakfast, so even though I was squirming with excitement I knew to give her space. But it was fantastic. I wrote on a napkin "Mom don't say ANYTHING but Patti Smith is sitting behind Aunt Debby" and handed it to her. Mom gleefully took the note, but didn't really know who or what I was talking about:)

Little did she know we were sitting next to one of the most inspiring women of modern times.

Today is Patti Smith's birthday. She is one of my heroes: my female role model for living a full life as an artist and writer, and becoming an empowered and fascinating older woman.

(She's a Fire Dog by the way, 1946.... her and David Bowie...)

I had the good fortune to see her speak at this conference, but I've never posted my notes on her speech until now. They could be a Manual For Living for ANYONE. I really took her to heart, and this is pretty much how I live my life now.

The artist is to animate God, and inspire, inform and lead the people

The artist MUST take care of their own house (health, finances, etc..)

Being a musician is a sacrifice - doing the work, dragging equipment, being disciplined

Female rock artists are not well represented in the music industry. Women do well in country music and as singer songwriters.... but not in rock music.

Everyone has the right to make money from their art.

Patti is often asked, "How do I make money from my music?" Her answer - "Get a Job!" Take care of your responsibilities.

Patti Smith worked from 1967 to 1974. You have to work hard and get funding for your work.

The important part is to tell yourself "I am not my day job. I'm doing this to fund my music."

She watched her mother work all day. When they didn't have enough money she would sew and do laundry for people at night. It gave Patti a strong work ethic.

Her mantra - People have the Power to change what's around us and within us.

She saw the birth of rock music, and she's seen lots of ups and downs in the industry and society in general. But the times we're living in are the most corrupt, demoralizing, fearful times she's EVER seen. You have to be really tough to make it in the world today.

The answer is to work diligently on the things you CAN control. Make them your whole focus.

One thing you can control is your health. Work on your "inner house" - what's your nutrition?

Are you taking care of yourself?

Your teeth?

We have to be strong, clean and aware because the world is fucked up.

Get yourself together - get it physically together.

Conduct yourself in a manner that commands respect.

She also said, when people march together, or meet at conferences, we let each other know that we exist! Try to strengthen the numbers in your community.

First there was "Sex Rehab" on VH1, and now today we have Rehab (and Dr. Drew) appearing on Oprah! Really amazing stuff. "Sex Rehab" is a fascinating show and I'm glad to see it receiving mainstream attention.

I can relate to it. I've struggled with dysfunctional relationships in my own life, and I've seen the ravages of addiction in our society, on the news, in advertising and in my community. I hope this new exposure will open the door of healing and transformation for addicts that aren't aware of their addiction, or aware that there is a different way to live.

As I watched I decided to take some notes on Oprah's show to share with you here. Most of these facts and perspectives come from Dr. Drew and the guests on the show:

Sex Addiction:

Sex addiction is harder to deal with than drug addiction.
One orgasm releases as much dopamine in a person's brain as one alcoholic drink.
At it's core, it's about your sense of value and how you relate to yourself.
Sometimes it's a way to feel power over others.
Sex addicts often feel unlovable.
When children become sexual at a young age, Dr. Drew says it's from chaos in the home.
Most addicts seek recovery when suffering with consequences and feeling a loss of control
About 80% of partners of sex addicts will stay with the addict.
It takes 3 to 5 years to treat sex and love addiction

Love Addiction:

...is more common in women
It's an intimacy disorder
The people that terrorized us in our childhood become our fixation in our adulthood.
A love addict can't tolerate intimacy
The person becomes addicted to the feeling of being in love.
One of the symptoms is obsessing over a love interest - making the guy or girl your everything.
If rejected, the addict becomes suicidal or severly depressed; can't work or function.
If you're in a relationship with someone who doesn't respect you, there is an element of addiction involved.
Addiction requires interpersonal and spiritual experiences to heal.
Humans need intimacy; it's a basic need.
There are so many social networking sites (like this one:), and everyone's talking.. but there's no REAL intimacy (I thought this was an interesting observation!)

Here's a great article I found about Mercury Retrograde that I want to share with you. I'm waiting to find out who wrote this so I can give them proper credit, but in the meantime I think you'll find it very informative!

Mercury, the Divine Messenger

Mercury Retrograde in Libra & Virgo [Sep. 7 – Sep. 29, 2009]
At 04:46 UT (Universal Time), on Monday, September 7th, 2009, Mercury the cosmic trickster turns retrograde at 6°13' Libra, in the sign of the Scales, sending communications, travel, appointments, mail and the www into a general snarlup! The retro period begins some days before the actual turning point (as Mercury slows) and lasts for three weeks or so, until Sep. 29, when the Winged Messenger reaches his direct station. At this time he halts and begins his return to direct motion through the zodiac.Everything finally straightens out on October 18, as he passes the point where he first turned retrograde. Mercury normally turns retrograde three times a year, but this year he turns tail four times, which is unusual. The effects of each period differ, according to the sign in which it happens (see box for Retrograde Periods in 2009).
A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. According to modern science, this traditional concept arises in the illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth with relation to other planets in our solar system. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way due to this cosmic shadow-play. Click here for more on the science of retrograde planetary motion.
Retrograde periods, although often problematic for us earthlings, are not particularly uncommon. Each planet retrogrades, except the Sun and Moon. Although a powerful astrological influence, Mercury is quite a small planet that travels at a relatively fast speed through the zodiac. Despite being the closest planet in our solar system to the Sun, he is not always in the same sign as the Sun. This time, Mercury turns retrograde in Libra (relationships; tastes; harmony) while the Sun is in Virgo (analysis; critical ability), but retrogrades into Virgo at the Virgo New Moon on Sep. 18 (while the Sun of course is still in Virgo). The Sun moves into Libra at the Equinox on Sep. 22 while Merc is still in Virgo, but Mercury soon heads back to join the Sun in Libra on Oct. 10.
Fated Events: As a rule, retrograde planets mark a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events that relate to their sphere of influence. Unresolved issues from the past tend to rear their heads. Retro phases present us with a series of events over which we seem to have little or no conscious control, relating especially to the sign in which the retrogradation occurs. For example, Mercury retrograde in Libra (relationships; tastes; harmony) awakens quite different sets of circumstances from those generated when he retrogrades into Virgo (analysis; critical ability).A retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, beginning when a planet begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac, and ending when it returns to the point where it first paused. However, during the cycle, a planet's energy is most powerful (and more likely to generate critical events of universal importance) when the planet makes a station: appearing motionless in the sky.
These stationary periods occur near the beginning of the cycle (when the planet first halts as it prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when the retrograde planet slows to a stop before moving forward again. The direct station (when the planet halts before moving forward again) is the most powerful and can be used for maximum benefit.

Many astrologers consider that the "Mercury Shadow" begins between two and three weeks before the actual retro station, so the "shadow phase" begins on August 18, when Mercury passes the point of direct station for the first time in this cycle. This period of "Mercury Shadow" extends to the Return date, something under three weeks after the direct station. Bear this in mind, because experience shows that the effects of the retro period are still marked during the shadow phase. Some of the most characteristic annoyances often occur just after Mercury makes the direct station, while he is crawling forward before picking up speed.

What does Mercury affect? In general, Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation. By extension, Mercury rules people who work in these areas, especially those who work with their minds or their wits: writers and orators, commentators and critics, gossips and spin doctors, teachers, travellers, tricksters and thieves. Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry. It is not wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely that such decisions will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking. Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual, as the critical faculties are dimmed. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!

The key issue here is one of focus. Mercury sets out to restructure our thinking processes and for many of us this is painful and frustrating. Unresolved issues from the past tend to push themselves forward. Moreover, these experiences reveal flaws in our internal organisation as well as our external planning, which can make us feel foolish and inadequate. Mercury retrograde, like any cosmic aspect, affects people differently, depending on where it hits their personal charts. Some people actually prosper under a retro Mercury, especially if Mercury is retrograde but otherwise well-aspected in their birth charts. It is also a time when matters begun under a previous retro period will come to fruition, or completion as the case may be. Firm decisions that have been previously made when Mercury is travelling normally through the zodiac may be implemented or finalised while Mercury is retrograde without too much worry, for experience shows that this can be done without undue problems arising.

Full Moon in Aquarius

I had an ELECTRIC ritual last night for the Full Moon in Aquarius! It's the brightest full moon of the year, and since Aquarius is ruled by Uranus (the planet of sudden events, electricity and invention) I decided to draw down some truth and inspiration. Silver has a mercurial quality to it, so I grabbed a silver candle.

I've long heard that Tonka bean is ruled by the planet Uranus - it's this weird, black, shriveled seed thing that smells AMAZING. A lot like vanilla. It's often used in Hoodoo, but I use it in spells relating to Aquarius or Uranus. I also brought out some lavender oil last night for Mercury (Mercury being a lower octave of Uranus) and I couldn't believe what I came up with!
I've never mixed it with lavender before and it's an amazing scent! The dreams I had last night were very vivid and I awoke with some amazing revelations about my life.

This is such great news. I've felt I needed to hide my beliefs from people or risk being instantly judged. In fact, creating this blog was hard at first, but has been very helpful for me getting used to being open about my magic.... and it is something I would like to share with others.

Many times I've told people I'm a witch and watched their eyes get wide and their bodies get tense. After awhile I would avoid the subject of religion, but it's such a huge part of me I felt I was hiding 75% of who I am. I would try to "water it down" with the phrase "oh I'm a goddess worshiper" or "I'm a wiccan". It's true, those phrases DO apply to me, but when I became a witch in 1988...I called myself a witch.

It's hard to get past all the fear and programming that have saturated our society for so many centuries about pagans. I hope that this article signals a new era where nature religions are celebrated!!

SOLSTICE INVOCATION FOR TRICKSTER ALLIES

Remorse is said to be the highest of the negative states, the closest to clarity --because we see and feel all those times when we didn't respond to life's "woof woof wanna play?!" When we fell for the compelling illusion of separateness, and forgot that we are all in one large, pulsing, shape-shifting-according-to-collaborative-intent dream.

The Sufi, and we with her, gently pats her heart and whispers "estafirahlah" "forgiveness of self and others." And may "forgive" mean "to give energy for change."

The protoplasm of reality is particularly susceptible to imprint now, by the power of word, language, story and metaphor. Allowing ourselves one true hyperbole: Never before has the power of human story-telling been so essential in determining what dies and what lives.

Let us dedicate ourselves to animating the desirable story. (To do otherwise would be complicitous with the evolutionary dead-end of empire.) We suck the chi of our complicity from that which is dying, and exhale into the blooming of dynamic collaborative kinship. We are here to re-dedicate ourselves to the responsibility of dreaming the desirable world into being.

Saturnalia: Deeper Dedication is the anti-dote to fear, as feeling useful is the anti-dote to depression. There -- that's handled.

So, let's visualize and dedicate, wherever we are around the Solstice time, and journeying on into this powerful Winter, that we are offering our unique and necessary Medicine, into the collective cauldron brew, and ladling ourselves a cup of All-Heal.

Trickster Medicine is really the sine qua non that brings all the other medicines into bubbling accord to produce the elixir of Dynamic Reverent Ingenuity.

Thanksgiving 2008......a day to remember gratitude and spend time with friends and family, but today is very significant astrologically too!

Uranus, the planet of Revolution is turning Direct ~ watch for eruptions, sudden events, breakthroughs in science and tumultuous change and revolution, particularly in the world of computers and the internet. Sadly, I think the attacks in Mumbai might be related to Uranus's station.
Pluto has moved into Capricorn for the first time in 200 years ~ the economic collapse announced the beginning of this shift. Capricorn is a sign of roots, reality and money, and brings an end to speculation idealism. It's time for hard work and earned income. Also, the last time Pluto was in Capricorn was the birth of our nation; how fabulous that we've elected such an articulate, intelligent and focused new President! Our first African American President!!
It's a New Moon in Sagittarius! Yay! Sagittarius is the sign of the Archer. The archer aims and shoots his arrow. This is the time of year to set some goals. I ran across this great article today by Peter Spellman and thought I'd share it with you:

Turning Your Goals Into Successes

Success is often defined as the progressive realization of a worthwhile goal. I like that. If you are doing the things that are moving you toward the attainment of your goal today, then you are successful even if you are not there yet. It’s the goal that starts the whole journey (another way of saying this is, “the journey is the goal”).

An illuminating study on goal setting sponsored by the Ford Foundation found that:

23% of the population has no idea what they want from life and as a result they don’t have much.
67% of the population has a general idea of what they want but they don’t have any plans for how to get it;
Only 10% of the population has specific, well-defined goals, but even then, 7 out of the 10 of those people reach their goals only half the time;
The top 3%, however, achieved their goals 89% of the time – an .890 batting average!

What accounts for the dramatic difference between that top 3% and the others? Are you ready?: The top 3% wrote down their goals. Are you laughing yet? It can’t be that simple! Or can it?

Dreams and wishes are not goals until they are written as specific end results on paper. In some very real sense, writing them down materializes them. Goals have been described as “dreams with a deadline”. Written, specific goals provide direction and focus to our activities. They become a road map to follow, and the mind tends to follow what’s in front of it.

New band businesses tend to ignore the future consequences of their actions or inaction. Perhaps the most important task during the early days is to tune your attitude. Expect a positive outcome. Thicken your skin. Avoid reading evil motives into every adverse occurrence.

Notes for the Optimist

All Hallows Eve has arrived. Our celebration is even more magickal this year as Halloween stands on the eve of one of the most important US elections in history. Trickster is one of the rulers of Halloween and is presiding over November 4th as well (cross all your fingers and toes). Hecate, the great dark goddess of sorcery and magic also walks among us, but her interest lies in helping us release anything we've outgrown that no longer serves us.
